Sherman Oaks Real Estate & Homes for Sale in California Sherman Oaks: Known as “The Gateway to the Valley,” this community is located near the 405 Freeway and Highway 101 interchange just north of Beverly Hills. The community is perhaps best known as the home of the Sherman Oaks Galleria, considered by many to be the undisputed residence of the Valley Girl, a cultural label popularized by the song and 1983 movie of the same name. Despite the image that has been portrayed, the community is home to some 50,000 plus residents who find the community a great place to call a real home. Nearly half of the population is employed by local businesses, making it a very self-supporting community. Particularly strong are the service, retail, and finance industries. Local parks, a state university, and two community colleges together provide sports, music and theatrical activities. Students are served by Los Angeles Unified Local Districts B and C. The University of California at Los Angeles and Cal State Northridge are both less than 10 miles away.
